SweetTalk 37

VAUGHAN OLIVER UNABLE TO ATTEND

We learnt late yesterday evening that Vaughan can’t even leave his house in Epsom, never mind travel to Dublin for his talk tonight [Oct 22nd 2009]. Some mails from his better half Lee, including the best one below, have us already looking forward to a visit early next year. Maybe we’ll host an exhibition to coincide with his talk about his extensive work. As soon as we have more detail, we’ll let you know. Vaughan has even said he’ll “bring a band with him”, so that’s the music sorted! Here’s the notification we received,

Dearest Aidan,
Lee here. Vaughan is so unwell. ( I think it is the swine flu) But he is so so sorry and upset that he can not do the talk for you.
I sympathise with your frustration
You have put a lot of work in to this event.

Apologies and love to you. Let’s hope we can make it work 3rd time lucky!

All good wishes, Lee.

We are so sorry to be letting everyone know at this late stage, but we’ve been working maniacally all night to find a replacement that would do the night justice. Thankfully, and most gratefully, Shane Hogan and Tom Burke from Dublin based Areaman Films are stepping up and will speak about their latest productions “140 Characters” and the critically acclaimed “The Liberties”.

Their excellent film and advertising work is clever and exciting and their talk will surely be peppered with anecdotes, hopefully revealing the story behind the productions. We love what they do and we hope you think so too. This is a great addition to tonight’s line-up. Thanks for your support as always.

One thing’s certain, everything changes.

i asked at the desk and the girl said if i send my tickets back ill get a refund. i, like others dont know who these other artists are and am unhappy that it was not mentioned about the refund on the poster. its cancelled, vaughan oliver didnt make it due to ill health.we appreciate your efforts, but seems like a cop out trying to hold onto the ticket money spent dont you think?

John, we have no problems giving you a refund and if you send your tickets back to Tickets.ie they’ll look after you, I thought not to cancel and ask Areaman who lot’s of people knew of their work, to speak instead, of course we knew it wouldn’t be the same without Vaughan, but i thought the line-up was still good and strong and that people would appreciate the effort i put in to getting the talk as good as possible under the circumstances. I don’t feel this was a ‘cop-out’ and i and others i asked felt it was a great night, considering. so thinking about the poster i thought it was still good value and hoped people felt the same.

Honestly John the last thing i want is unhappiness.

hey, its ok dude, i know, and i admire your hard work, i just, well, if it was me, id have mentioned the refund on the poster. i hadnt a clue who the other guests. yes, i could of learned somethine, but when youre up at 6.30am, tired and blood shot eyes as i had, i just couldnt go through with the unknown.

thanks for replying, by cop out, i meant as i said, information? it was not declared, the options we as punters had unless we asked of course. i asked the security first haha, ‘oh its nothing to do with me, im with the club’

hopefully he’ll get well soon, hes aged more than when i last saw him. an exhibition would be great

all the best.
