At least Thirteen ways of looking at a Blackbird

The 9th century poem ‘The Blackbird of Belfast Lough’ has been chosen as the motto and emblem of the 5th Anniversary of the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry.

To celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the founding of the Centre, local and international artists have been invited to interpret the blackbird and its song.

The Heaney Centre is a focal point for creativity in Ireland. It works to ensure the continuing of the rich tradition Seamus Heaney did so much to develop in his years as a student and lecturer at Queen’s, a tradition which emphasises poetry’s communal presence and international profile.

The Artists:
Paul Allen, Mark Canavan, Aaron Eakin, Steven Forbes, Chris Heaney, Brian Jeffers, Oliver Jeffers, Rory Jeffers, Aidan Kelly, Peter Maybury, Kim Montgomery, Chris Murphy, Ingrid Neill, Mac Premo, Lynsay Spence and Ben Willis.

The exhibition starts, Thursday 20th November 2008 from 7pm until 9pm.
The Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry, Queen’s University, Belfast.
