Sweetness&Light is the largest ever gathering of international and locally renowned creative talent ever in Ireland. It brings together the very best photographers, illustrators, designers, animators, artists, musicians under one domed roof with one simple aim, to speak about and show their work and inspire those who come and see.
Put simply, everyone on the bill is the very finest at what the do, from Ben Drury (UK) who’s longterm relationships with the likes of Mo’Wax, James Lavelle & Futura 2000 has maintained for almost 20 years, Oliver Jeffers (IRL) who’s an internationally renowned and award winning children’s book artist and writer aswell as leading artist also, Glenn Leyburn (IRL) who’s worked with David Holmes since day one on bringing his vision to David’s sounds in everything he produces.
David Rooney will be there to share insights into his incredible crafted and thought-provoking work which sees him regularly work with the likes of Hot Press and The Irish Times , to name but two of his client roster. Add to this the artistic geniuses that are BRENB (IRL), Alan Clarke (IRL), Gary Baseman (USA), Rinzen (AUS), David Cleary (IRL), Tim Biskup (USA), Asbestos (IRL), Conor Harrington (IRL) and the more playful creatives like Jon Burgerman (UK), Tado (UK) and Brian and Christopher from The Tender Trio (IRL) and it’s shaping up to be a wonderful space with something for everyone.
Over the course of the weekend there will be a huge emphasis on creatives who are embedded in and helped shape the visual side of music as we know it. Mike Mills is revered for his work with Mo’Wax, The Beastie Boys, Air and also his film work like the recent underground classic ‘Thumbsucker’, Shynola (UK) are known for the epic videos for everyone from Beck, Radiohead, UNKLE and much more besides, Colonel Blimp (UK) will be bringing some of their many directors from the multi-award winning video production company which names the likes as Lily Allen, Bloc Party, Dizzee Rascal, Interpol and just about everyone else as people they’ve worked with. Jill Furmanovsky (UK) is a photographer who also need no introduction, she’s the girl who has shot all the great, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Oasis and everyone else important. Airside (UK) are the design arm of festival favourite band Lemon Jelly while B+ (aka Brian Cross) (IRL) has carved a niche out for himself in LA documenting the street cultures there as well as in Brazil with his incredible film ‘BrasilInTime’. Donal Dineen and Chequerboard (IRL) , a SweetTalk highlight last year, will also be performing live so that’s not to be missed.
Lots of other creatives from across the spectrum will also be in attendance and bringing you visual treats including Angry (IRL) who’s clothing has draped the likes of Jamie Oliver and Bell X1 and their day-to-day work is equally impressively successful. Youngbloods Conor & David (IRL) , M&E (IRL / SWE) and Johnny Kelly (IRL) are firm SweetTalk favourites as they rocked our events at The Sugar Club over the last year with their fresh new approach to design.
Equally fresh are the photographic talents of Richard Gilligan (IRL), Aidan Kelly (IRL) and Linda Brownlee (IRL) and the pixel perfectionists eBoy (GER) (who’ve worked with everyone from Paul Smith, Kidrobot, DKNY and even the new Groove Armada cover) and the bad boys of toys, products and just about anything else Dan Willett & Mark James (UK) . Add the final touches with locally great but internationally renowned animators DADDY (IRL) who’ve just finished the new ASH video, the supersuccessful YouTube addicts Lovely Productions (IRL) and tonnes of other great talent from around Ireland and the world and you’ve got 30 hours of the very finest in the rock and rolling hills of Laois for one weekend only.
